Featuring over a 150 portraits of Black Portlanders taken over a five-year period, Black Portlanders, Black Portlands pulls from photographer Intisar Abioto’s image archive of Black Portland life. Since early 2013, Abioto has photographed people of African descent in Portland for her exploratory photo work, The Black Portlanders. This exhibit gathers selections from this work to offer a collective portrait of an abiding and self-affirmed community. The exhibit features beloved Black elders, artists, historians, poets, activists, luminaries, individuals, and families. It images and honors everyday community members. It will also include street photography from the earliest days of The Black Portlanders.
Deena Bee will be spinning and bringing her brilliance from 6-7pm. An artist talk on the body of work by Intisar Abioto will happen at 7pm.
