33rd ANNUAL GENDER STUDIES SYMPOSIUM

You are invited to submit proposals for presentation at the 33rd Annual Lewis & Clark College Gender Studies Symposium, March 5-7, 2014.

We are accepting proposals for individual papers (each lasting 15-20 minutes), full panels, hands-on workshops, roundtable discussions, readings, and artistic productions.  [Please see our glossary here for definitions and additional details for each type of presentation.] All sessions will last sixty to ninety minutes.

All presentations examining issues of gender and sexuality will be considered, but we especially welcome presentations focusing on questions of space, context, location, or environment.   To generate some thinking, we offer the following list of possible spaces to analyze in terms of gender and sexuality, but we stress that presentations do not need to address these areas of inquiry:

  • workplaces
  • prisons
  • military institutions
  • schools
  • cyberspace
  • urban planning/rural development
  • street harassment
  • bathrooms
  • sex trade
  • borders
  • political landscapes
  • tourism and recreation
  • domestic environments/interiors
  • sacred or ritualized space

PROPOSALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRI., NOV. 8, 2013.

Proposals should consist of a single file containing the following:

  • cover pagewith the following information:
    • presenter’s name, address, email address, title, and institutional affiliation
    • presentation title and format (individual paper, reading, workshop, performance, roundtable discussion, etc.)
    • anticipated AV needs and any other logistical or technical requirements
  • abstract of 1-2 double-spaced pages, with presenter’s name and presentation title

Professional scholars and independent researchers should feel free to include a one-page CV or a brief biographical statement if relevant.  Please do not send a full CV.

If you are a student, please indicate in your abstract if your presentation will be drawn from work in a course or internship, is part of a thesis, or is based on independent research.

If submitting a group panel, please include all presenters’ names and abstracts.
