Women of Color at the Olympics

I (Tonya) am not a huge Olympics watcher. I might watch a bit of the track & field, but that’s it. I’m just not a big sports enthusiast in general (and I miss the days of Flo Jo).

But I always want to give a shout out to women of color doing it big or breaking barriers. So congrats to Gabrielle Douglas (first African-American and first woman of color to win a gold in gymnastics), Serena and Venus Williams (sisters won gold in women’s tennis), and Claressa Shields (17 yr. old wins first U.S. women’s boxing gold in Olympic history).

Also, check out this great article about the inequalities at the Olympics: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-david-j-leonard/olympic-inequalities_b_1728989.html?utm_hp_ref=black-voices&ir=Black+Voices
